We live in New Hampshire, subject to the four seasons. How often should we have our piano tuned? A tuner once suggested at least twice per year.

You received good advice from the tuner you spoke with. Where you are located, the ideal times to have your piano tuned are April/May and October. Naturally, a player with a discriminating ear is likely to have the piano tuned more often than twice a year.
